Imagine Dragons Video – “It's Time”

At the risk of sounding like a teenager, I write today’s post.  Over the weekend, I had the good fortune to be able to attend the Imagine Dragons concert.  I almost missed out on this opportunity, because I had a lot of work to catch up on, I was tired, and I was pretty sure this group wouldn’t be my cup o’ tea.

Here’s where I start sounding like a teenager.  OMG.  The concert from start to finish was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.  I was truly moved by all of the performers, the performances, the lyrics, the musicianship, the sound, the passion, and the artistry.

I not only was moved by the experience, I was also moved to write about it.  I guess I’m not so worried about how this will come across because now I’m passionate too.

So here are the takeaways as far as I can tell:

  • I’m not a teenager, but I can act and dress like one.  Well kind of.
  • You should never pass up an opportunity to see art of any kind.  Move your own senses.  Experience other people’s gifts.  Take in things live.
  • It’s always a nice surprise when you can broaden your own range of experience.
  • Keep trying.  Especially at things you care about.  From what I can tell, Imagine Dragons spent a few years riding around in an old airport shuttle bus, just to be able to perform in small venues in Las Vegas and to get their music played.
  • Go bigger.
  • When you have a message to share, sing it.  The people who need and want to hear it will come listen, will come learn, and will be converted.
  • Connect and be thrilled.
  • Be grateful for the journey.  You may be wondering whether you should give up on what you really care about, but that’s just one of the many steps that will get you to be playing just how you want to play in the Izod Center in New Jersey.

To all teenage fans of Imagine Dragons, I respect your taste.  To all who have not yet begun to dig this group, take a listen and then add a song or two to your Smashing Procrastination Playlist.  My new favorite is “On Top of the World.”  What’s yours?

(My apologies for not including more video footage…I was singing!)
